Reading EC heating and current without losing their conventions
We need to read electron-cyclotron (EC) heating and driven current before coupling them to transport. The Primer explains this source coupling; terminology is in the Glossary. The selected reference writes profiles with different averages in centimetre–gram–second (CGS) units. Their units, radial coordinate and physical meaning must be explicit.
We added a host-side reader that preserves those distinctions. It converts units to SI, retains the native bins and reduced-boundary flag, and hashes the exact bytes read. Missing channels, ambiguous units, invalid grids and missing or nonfinite values fail explicitly. Current signs are preserved.
The reader reports volume-integrated power and area-integrated toroidal current against the corresponding reference totals. These are diagnostics: no physical acceptance tolerance has been selected. Focused checks pass in both modes: 24 focused tests pass in full and Tier-A-only modesC-151. They use synthetic output files, so they establish reader behaviour rather than reference-physics accuracy. The fixtures are constructed separately from the reader, but are not an independent physical reference. Installed-wheel checks also pass in both modes; the displayed full-suite statistics remain historical.
The transport solver expects the surface average of current dotted with magnetic field for its EC current source. The reference’s current-density profiles need an explicit field/sign and geometry conversion before coupling. Its native bins also need mapping to the transport grid. Neither conversion is inferred here.
Two upstream ITER regression decks are prepared for the owner’s baseline choice. At this reader checkpoint, no reference execution, EC labels or training are claimed. The independent ITER pedestal port still needs its branch and boundary prescription; M3 remains open. The later numerical pilot exercises the reader on freshly generated reference output.
